Cosmetology License  Renewal

I'm amazed how  a hair dresser or beautician is referred on the Internet in a shameful attack as to imply one picks up a pair of scissors and cuts hair  without any training, education or license.

The State of Indiana and the City of Indianapolis is where I took my "Cosmetology" Course.  I completed and passed both the office test as well the  two state boards in Cosmetology.  I worked  two hours doing lab and office work for each hour of my course.  I contribute this working my way through 'beauty school' as my way to own my own business and the road to my independence. I raised two sons and had a means for independence to take care of myself and in some instances took care of others through 'Cosmetology'.

1963 I moved to the State of Florida to have to take 'two' State Board for my license.  I passed both Florida State Board on the first test.  The first State test was to acquire my 'apprenticeship and the second test one year later was for my Masters License.  I owned my first Salon in  the State of Florida before I had my 'Master License' .  I built my second salon (building and salon) in 1966 and sold it in December 2002.  Third Salon in 1969 and sold it in 1974.

Florida Law headed by the Department of Professional Regulation requires Cosmetology License renewal's must take 16 hours of Continuing education courses with a passing grade for every license period in the following:

As a Florida Licensed Cosmetologist I must comply with the above for the renewal of my license.......however

this does not mean continuing education halted with the States requirement for 1972  I had my business in Electrolysis and a most intensive education in the treatment of skin by machines i.e.  galvanic, farad, iontophoresis, sinusoidal,, faradism, disencrustation etc..including chemicals for exfoliation of the skin by means of acid/lower PH peels.  This education and business skills have give me an ample knowledge and skills in careful observation of bacteria of the skin and a duty with my practice in Sterilization and Sanitation.

I'm also in awe that my practice in Cosmetology, rang bells and whistles with how to practice sterilization within my nursery and aviary management.   I was practiced not to wipe my brow or put my  hand in my pocket when feeding the babies..also how to handle the phone while feeding babies or "not" to handle the phone while feeding babies or put my hands in my pocket...and I certainly would't put my babies on the floor (shoe's handiwipe)  to play.

Job opportunities and careers for woman in the late fifties and early sixties was not encouraged in our society.  Women i.e.' a Secretary,Waitress, Bank Teller, RN/Practical Nurse, School Teacher, Cosmetologist or possibly the Arm Forces.  Women got their right to have their checking accounts and credit just a short 29 years ago.   Veterinarian School's certainly were not accepting women back in the early sixties and some Veterinarian Schools through the seventies and eighties continued not to  accept woman for their study programs.

I am accomplished with my means of making my own way through this life, independent of any other person by my being a hair dresser/beautician or Cosmetologist.   I marveled that I was the only single woman in business in the sixties in this area... up through the seventies and early eighties, in the five county area, the only single (divorced, widowed)  woman in business and who own her own establishment was me and lets do mention at such a young age.

You see, if a Florida State (DPR )  Inspector walks into a 'hair place' and see you reach into your pocket for a watch, comb or scissors, while your client is in your chair/skin table ...try a $500 to up a $1,000 fine with a write up for the rest of Florida Cosmetologist to read in the Cosmetologist Florida Newsletter. ..and they certainly had better not see you hair on the  floor with a client in the chair.

My thoughts were/are  "Why not do better for the Exotic bird in my nursery/aviary"  then what I do for my  clients in a hair and skin care facility?  Veterinarians will respect you and I and utilize all their Avian Medicine Education to live up to your expectations, whatever your expectations might be.... With your knowledge today What are your expectations?
